Programme
In the early afternoon arrival in Garfagnana, by own means. Meeting with the guide in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana where the tour begins. Check-In. Accommodation in the reserved rooms. At 5 p.m., guided tour of a winery. This is followed by a tasting of three wines from Garfagnana and Lucca, accompanied by cheeses, honey and local jams. Presentation of the programme by one of our representatives. Typical “Garfagnana” dinner with a tasting of local cuisine. After dinner, visit [ outdoors only ] of the Rocca Ariostesca of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, which dominates the centre of the village and which in the 16th century hosted the poet Ludovico Ariosto for three years, who had been named governor of the province of Garfagnana, then under the rule of the Este family. Walk through the streets of the centre of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. Possibility to buy local products in the shops. Followed by a visit to the Fortress of Mont’Alfonso. Overnight stay.
Day 2 Bagni di Lucca
Check-Out. Pleasure and relaxation at the ancient thermal baths of Bagni di Lucca. HERE THE WATER IS MAGIC: A unique opportunity to experience one of the oldest thermal complexes in the world.
Since the Middle Ages the thermal baths of Bagni di Lucca have been known for the therapeutic properties of their waters.
From the main spring of the “Doccione” the thermal waters flow out at 54° C, fed by sulphate, bicarbonate and calcium, elements with extraordinary healing and regenerating powers. Characteristic are the two natural steam caves, the Grotta Grande and the Grotta Paolina, named after Napoleon’s sister, a regular visitor to the spa, with temperatures between 40° and 45° C, ideal for skin care, arthropathy, relaxation and purification. We propose: a moment of relaxation in the Grotta Paolina, the smallest and most suggestive of the grottos. It is named after one of its most illustrious guests, Napoleon’s sister. This cave is made up of two cavities fed by their own source “il Fontino” has the peculiar characteristic of not having an homogenous temperature throughout the body, but a lower temperature at the feet and legs. Following you will be wrapped in pleasant warm towels, sipping an herbal tea prepared with our thermal water. This is the place to let stress slip away, to reconnect with the world and beauty, and to treat yourself to unforgettable emotions. Alternatively: the thrill of a rafting descent, a very captivating and unforgettable experience. Free lunch. Departure for the return to the destinations of origin.
